Rabat – An agreement was signed today, Wednesday, in Rabat, under which the Kingdom’s capital will host the headquarters of the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI).
The agreement, signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Secretary General of AFROSAI, the First President of the Court of Accounts, Ms. Zineb El Adaoui, defines the operational framework of the organization in the Kingdom, its commitments, as well as the privileges granted to its headquarters.
The signing of this agreement follows the election of the Court of Accounts of the Kingdom of Morocco as the Secretary General and host institution for the permanent headquarters of AFROSAI, during the organization’s General Assembly held in Tripoli, Libya, from December 4 to 6, 2024.
By hosting the headquarters of AFROSAI, Morocco, as a hub for numerous regional representations seeking the development of the African continent and the well-being of its people, embodies its firm commitment to promoting the rule of law in all its aspects, particularly with regard to the control of public finances, and to consolidating its efforts within the framework of cooperation relations with African countries in terms of exchanging experiences, sharing best practices in this field.
Furthermore, this agreement constitutes a strategic lever enabling the Court of Accounts to strengthen its cooperation with its counterparts at the African level, in line with the insightful vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and to renew the Kingdom’s constant commitment to promoting South-South cooperation in all fields, by making it an absolute priority.
This cooperation is expected to contribute to improving the performance of audit institutions, strengthening institutional and professional capacities, as well as enhancing continuous cooperation between Supreme Audit Institutions in Africa.
It will also support the establishment of strong institutions, promote transparency and good governance, in order to best respond to the needs of the population and achieve sustainable social and economic development throughout the continent.
