Essaouira – Security services, in a high-quality operation demonstrating seamless coordination between the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance (DST) and the Judicial Police Brigade in the city of Essaouira, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a massive quantity of cannabis resin (hashish), totaling 17 tons and 740 kilograms.
The operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, April 29, 2025, on the coasts of the “Sidi Ishaq” area located between the cities of Safi and Essaouira. The security interventions resulted in the arrest of a road transport truck that was preparing to transfer the drugs to two inflatable boats, which were seized at the scene.
Security forces also managed to seize navigational equipment and high-powered marine engines, which were intended for use in smuggling the shipment via international maritime routes.
This security operation is part of the ongoing efforts and joint coordination between the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) and the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance (DST), aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking and strengthening security along the Moroccan coast.
