During the opening of the 9th national conference of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, the party’s secretary-general, addressed the issue of the Interior Ministry withholding financial support for the party’s conference. Benkirane shared with conference attendees that despite this setback, the party continued organizing the event, managing to raise 1 million dirhams (10 million centimes) in just two days.
Benkirane highlighted the swift and effective response from party members, stating, “Despite the Interior Ministry withholding support, our activists quickly mobilized, and we raised 1 million dirhams in two days.”
He further explained that the party covered part of the conference expenses, which amounted to around 3.5 million dirhams, without relying on the Ministry of the Interior’s financial assistance. “This time, the conference was funded through the party’s funds and contributions from its members,” he added.
Earlier, Benkirane had criticized the Interior Ministry for the delayed financial support of 1.3 million dirhams, attributing the delay to “administrative reasons” and stating that the party would continue to follow up on the issue.
In conclusion, Benkirane emphasized that the contributions from members reflect the party’s commitment to maintaining financial independence, while also acknowledging that the state remains responsible for its obligations to political parties. However, he noted the importance of the party relying on its members to manage its internal affairs.
