Benkirane Threatens to Sue Interior Ministry After Re-election

Abdelilah Benkirane, who was re-elected Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party on Sunday during the party’s ninth National Congress in Bouznika, wasted no time in attacking the Ministry of the Interior, announcing his intention to file a lawsuit against it for not disbursing the public funding allocated for organizing the congress.

In his first speech after his election, Benkirane stated, “The Minister of the Interior must prepare to appear before the administrative judiciary. Whatever the court’s ruling, we will accept it.”

After revealing that he had tasked lawyer Abdessamad Idrissi, a member of the party, with preparing the legal file, Benkirane stressed that his party relies on its members’ contributions for funding.

He said, “We have no relationship with the United States, Russia, or the Gulf states,” quoting King Mohammed VI: “As His Majesty told me… We are a party like any other.”

Speaking about his re-election, Benkirane did not hide his strong emotions, saying, “I am human, and the human being is weak… But bearing this responsibility is a heavy burden.”

The Secretary-General of the conservative party, who was elected for a fourth term, explained that the PJD is already preparing for the upcoming 2026 elections. He warned, “We will participate in the elections. If our right is stolen, we will not remain silent.”

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Benkirane renewed his full support for the Palestinian people, condemning Israel’s violations, and addressed a message to Israeli leaders: “If an opportunity for reconciliation with the Palestinians arises, seize it. Do not be deceived by your military victories or the support of Trump and the United States.”

Finally, Benkirane called on Moroccan political parties to preserve their independence and reject the use of money in election campaigns. He said, “Money should not be a means to attract citizens. A politician should not become a minister simply because he insulted Benkirane.”
