Marrakech: The Court of First Instance in Marrakech last Friday sentenced a young woman named Ghadir to nine months of imprisonment. Ghadir had been arrested and incarcerated in Oudaya prison for acts of violence and defamation.
Ghadir recently posted videos on social media containing threats and defamatory content against a young woman named “Salma,” a high school classmate whom she had assaulted with a razor blade in 2022.
She was thus found guilty of disseminating false allegations infringing on the privacy of others, public defamation, psychological violence, and inciting the commission of offenses via electronic means, with aggravating circumstances.
In addition to the prison sentence, Ghadir was fined 2,500 dirhams and ordered to pay 30,000 dirhams in damages to the civil party (“Salma”).
It is worth noting that she had already been convicted in 2022 for this serious assault, which caused permanent disfigurement to Salma.
A controversy erupted on social media following the publication of Ghadir’s videos. A solidarity hashtag was widely shared on social networks in favor of the victim.
