MINURSO Commander to UN Security Council: Polisario Has Failed Militarily in Moroccan Sahara; Morocco Strengthens International Credibility

In a formal briefing held earlier this week at the United Nations Security Council headquarters, the Commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) provided a detailed assessment of the field situation, revealing that the Polisario Front has failed to achieve any meaningful military breakthroughs on the ground.

The UN official affirmed that the Polisario’s attempts to impose a new status quo by force have been met with strong readiness and effective response by the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, which have managed to repel all provocations without incurring significant losses or compromising regional stability.

In his statement, the MINURSO chief praised the “advanced deterrence capabilities” of the Moroccan military, highlighting its balance between firmness and discipline, and its high level of restraint in the face of repeated provocations by separatist elements.

He further emphasized that the professional conduct of Morocco’s armed forces reflects the image of a disciplined and responsible military, which contributes to enhancing Morocco’s position on the international stage and reinforces its growing credibility as a stabilizing force in a region increasingly prone to insecurity.
