Rabat – Several parliamentary groups in the Moroccan House of Representatives have submitted a formal request to conduct a fact-finding mission into the programs and procedures for subsidizing the import of cattle, sheep, and meat, according to a letter dated April 7, 2025.
According to the document addressed to the Chairman of the Committee on Productive Sectors, the request aims to closely examine the programs and measures taken by the government to support livestock imports. This initiative is part of Parliament’s efforts to protect citizens’ purchasing power and verify the extent to which the intended objectives of these government programs are being achieved.
The request bears the signatures of representatives from four prominent parliamentary groups in the House of Representatives: the Socialist Democratic Constitutional Group, the National Rally of Independents Group, the Authenticity and Modernity Group, and the Istiqlali Unity and Egalitarianism Group. This broad support across different components of the majority and opposition reflects a widespread consensus on the need for scrutiny of this issue.

This parliamentary move comes within the context of the legislative institution’s close monitoring of the measures taken by the government to regulate meat prices in the local market and ensure their availability to consumers at reasonable prices, particularly with the approaching holy month of Ramadan and the holiday season, which typically sees an increase in demand for these essential goods.
The Bureau of the Committee on Productive Sectors is expected to discuss this request at the earliest opportunity to make a decision on it and determine the necessary steps and procedures for forming the fact-finding committee and commencing its tasks. This parliamentary initiative aims to shed light on the aspects of government support for the livestock import sector and ensure transparency and effectiveness in the use of public resources to serve the interests of consumers.
