The Digital Content Observatory revealed in a new analytical report, exclusively for Fes News, that Morocco’s call center sector is at a critical juncture, with thousands of jobs expected to be lost within the next two years due to rapid digital transformations and the adoption of generative artificial intelligence by global companies.
The observatory explained that free zones, specifically created to attract offshoring companies, are threatened with “economic and social collapse” if public policies in this area are not revised, and a new strategy based on skills development and directing investment towards high value-added digital sectors is not adopted.
The report warns that dozens of call centers have already begun reducing their workforce or freezing recruitment, noting that multinational companies are increasingly preferring artificial intelligence solutions over human labor in areas such as reception, technical support, and customer service.
The observatory concluded its analysis by emphasizing that the focus today is no longer on quantity but on quality and digital efficiency, calling on the government and economic actors to intervene urgently to protect jobs and ensure a smooth transition of human resources towards future professions.
