For the first time, Fes News camera takes you on a rare and exclusive tour inside the walls of Ras El Ma Local Prison in Fes, to discover another side of life behind bars, a side full of hope, seriousness, and determination.
Vocational Training: Renewed Hope
The journey began from the vocational training wing, where we met inmates receiving training in various crafts, most notably:
- Carpentry and Wood Carving: A 10-month course where inmates learn from scratch until they master this ancient handicraft.
- Leather Sewing: From bags to hats and accessories, precise training that turns trainees into skilled craftsmen.
- Traditional Tailoring: A workshop equipped with the latest equipment for making Moroccan caftans and djellabas.
- Barbering: A modern salon equipped with everything needed for comprehensive vocational training.
Handicrafts: From the Heart of Moroccan Traditions
- Copper Engraving: Handmade artistic panels resembling those displayed in the “Saffarin” markets.
- Traditional Zellij and Plaster: Windows, fountains, decorations, and ceilings that take you on an artistic tour inside the scientific capital.
- Electricity – Car Mechanics: Specialized training that qualifies prisoners for the job market inside and outside Morocco.
- Construction: From drawing to execution, including techniques for resisting snow, bullets, and electricity.
The Prison Institution: Rebuilding Humanity
Punishment is not the only goal. Today, prison has become a space for rehabilitation and reintegration. The administration has provided all the means and equipment for genuine vocational training, opening new horizons for inmates to build a dignified future outside the walls.
