Local Human Rights Petition in Beni Walid Calls for Halting Deforestation and Protecting the Environment from Destruction

On Friday, March 21, 2025, civil and human rights activists in Beni Walid, a locality near Taounate, launched a local petition urging the cessation of deforestation that is damaging the environmental components of the region.

In a press statement, Mohamed El-Hachimi, a councilor at Beni Walid Municipality, confirmed that the region’s forests are undergoing deforestation, emphasizing that the responsibility for protecting these forests lies with various authorities at the local, regional, and national levels.

El-Hachimi pointed out that this petition is not the first of its kind, as previous calls have been made for the National Agency for Water and Forests to take immediate action to halt the destruction of the forested areas in the municipality.

Meanwhile, a number of local residents have begun signing the petition and sharing it on social media platforms, along with posting images that document the extent of the damage done to the forests in the area.
