The construction of the Sidi Abou Dam in the Taounate province is progressing at a rapid pace, with completion reaching 87%, according to data presented during the 2024 session of the Board of Directors of the Sebou River Basin Agency.
This strategic project aims to store 200 million cubic meters of water, contributing to securing drinking water supply and agricultural irrigation.
The dam is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year. Once operational, it will provide drinking water to surrounding areas, irrigate approximately 5,000 hectares of agricultural land, enhance hydropower production, and offer flood protection.
Spanning a total area of 893 hectares, the dam features a 61-meter-high barrier. The project has been allocated a budget of 1.215 billion dirhams, funded by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, with the goal of mobilizing water resources to meet agricultural and residential needs, as well as supporting renewable energy production.
