Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity Launches Large-Scale Medical Campaign in Bouhouda, Taounate

A well-informed source told Fes News that the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity launched a large-scale surgical medical campaign on Thursday in Bouhouda, a rural commune in the Taounate province. This initiative is part of the foundation’s national proximity medical campaign program, aimed at improving healthcare access for vulnerable populations, particularly in remote and rural areas. The campaign will run until March 22, targeting around 4,500 beneficiaries from Bouhouda and ten neighboring communes.

To ensure the success of the campaign, a comprehensive medical platform has been set up, covering various medical specialties. These include early diagnosis of eye diseases especially cataracts alongside a dedicated space for individuals with physical disabilities to receive specialized consultations. The platform also features reception and registration units, medical examination areas covering multiple specialties, and telemedicine services. Additionally, the campaign is supported by 11 mobile medical units, medical analysis laboratories, radiology and ultrasound services, and a pharmacy for distributing medications to patients.

In an exclusive statement, Noureddine Ratbi, Head of the Humanitarian Medical Division at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, highlighted that the campaign provides care in various specialties, including gynecology, cardiology, pediatrics, gastroenterology, and dentistry, in addition to medical tests and radiology services. He emphasized the integration of telemedicine, allowing patients in remote areas to access specialized medical consultations without traveling long distances. This marks the fourth campaign of its kind this year, following similar initiatives in Zagora, Tan-Tan, and Berkane. The national proximity medical campaign program will continue to expand to other regions across Morocco.

Significant human and logistical resources have been mobilized for the initiative, including a medical and nursing team comprising 32 specialist doctors among them eight ophthalmic surgeons and ten general practitioners as well as 20 nurses, social workers, technical staff, and volunteers from civil society. According to initial data, the medical team treated approximately 1,500 patients on the first day alone, with similar numbers expected daily over the three-day campaign. Additionally, cataract removal surgeries are being performed at Taounate Provincial Hospital.

This campaign is part of a partnership between the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and various local stakeholders, including local authorities, the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection in the Fes-Meknes region, the Provincial Health Delegation in Taounate, Hassan II University Hospital in Fes, Taounate Provincial Hospital, and several humanitarian and health organizations. These include the Association of Friends of the Visually Impaired in Fes, the Provincial Association for Kidney Failure Patients in Taounate, and the Isaad Association, along with the Dental Association of Fes and its surrounding areas.

This initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to achieving healthcare equity and providing specialized medical services to vulnerable groups, in line with its humanitarian and social mission of promoting healthcare solidarity across Morocco.
