Rising Waters of Oued Bouabdin Isolate Residents in Sidi El Makhfi and Prevent Schoolgirls from Returning Home

A local source informed Fes News that several villages in the Sidi El Makhfi commune, Taounate province, have been completely isolated due to the rising waters of Oued Bouabdin, caused by heavy rainfall that hit the region last night.

According to the source, this situation prevented schoolgirls benefiting from school transportation services from returning home, as the school bus could not safely cross the swollen river. Local authorities, led by the district chief, intervened to prevent a potential disaster.

The source also noted that this crisis is not new, as residents face mobility difficulties every rainy season, whether to reach schools or carry out their daily activities. They often remain stranded for hours or even days, waiting for the water levels to recede.

Given these ongoing challenges, the residents of Tamloult, Essouik, and Bouabdin villages are calling on the authorities to urgently build a bridge over Oued Bouabdin as a permanent solution to this recurring issue, which poses a constant threat to their safety and right to secure mobility.
