The city of Fez is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, which has starkly revealed the deteriorating condition of roads across various districts and the fragility of many buildings in the old medina, posing a serious threat to residents.
In this context, Fes News has received a video documenting the moment a part of a house’s roof collapsed in Derb Al-Mestari Al-Sharabliyin, Talaâ Kebira, within the old medina, causing widespread concern among locals.
In response to these growing risks, Mouaad Jamai, Wali of the Fez-Meknes Region, has launched preventive measures to avoid further disasters. A monitoring and response unit has been established, operating 24/7 and comprising local authorities, architects, and construction experts. This unit will oversee at-risk buildings and conduct rapid interventions to ensure residents’ safety.
Residents of the old medina are urging authorities to accelerate restoration efforts and infrastructure rehabilitation to prevent further tragedies, especially as adverse weather conditions persist.
