World Cup 2026: Infantino Announces “Halftime Show” During Final

Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), announced on Wednesday the organization of “the very first halftime show” during the final of the 2026 World Cup in the suburbs of New York, inspired by the Super Bowl halftime show.

In a post on his Instagram account following a meeting with FIFA’s media and commercial partners in Dallas, Texas, Infantino stated: “I can confirm the very first halftime show of a FIFA World Cup final in New York, in partnership with Global Citizen. This will be a historic moment for the World Cup and a show worthy of the world’s biggest sporting event.”

The FIFA president added: “We also discussed how FIFA will take over Times Square during the final weekend of the 2026 World Cup, during the third-place match and the final.”

When contacted, FIFA did not provide further details about the arrangements for these events.

Infantino continued: “I would like to thank Chris Martin and Phil Harvey of Coldplay, who will work with us to finalize the lineup of artists performing during the halftime show, as well as at Times Square.”

In September 2024 in New York, when FIFA unveiled the stadiums selected to host the Club World Cup taking place this summer in the United States, Infantino had already mentioned an unprecedented halftime show during the tournament’s final.

He was accompanied at the time by actor Hugh Jackman, DJ Khaled, and host Gayle King.

However, questions remain about the arrangements and duration of these announced “shows,” as halftime in football cannot legally last longer than 15 minutes—far shorter than the Super Bowl halftime show that inspired this idea.

The next FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
