Under the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Khadija presided over the launch of the national operation “Ramadan 1446” on Monday in the Bouregreg neighborhood (Youssoufia district) in Rabat. This initiative, organized by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity in honor of the holy month of Ramadan, will benefit one million households, or nearly 5 million people.
This act of generosity, which has become a tradition for over 25 years, holds great significance during this blessed month. It reflects the constant High Solicitude of His Majesty the King towards socially vulnerable populations and embodies the values of humanity, solidarity, mutual aid, and sharing that characterize Moroccan society.
With a total budget of 330 million dirhams, the “Ramadan 1446” operation involves the distribution of 34,280 tons of food products (flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato paste, vermicelli, lentils, and tea). It aims to provide aid and comfort to the most vulnerable social groups, particularly widows, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
In this edition, 74% of the benefiting households reside in rural areas and are spread across 1,054 communes out of a total of 1,304 communes targeted nationwide.
In line with the Royal High Directives, this year’s edition is distinguished by the first-time use of the Unified Social Registry (RSU), through which the Ministry of the Interior updated the lists of households eligible for the food support operation.
This national information system was established by the Ministry of the Interior to enable social support programs to determine household eligibility based on objective socio-economic criteria.
The national operation “Ramadan 1446,” organized with the financial support of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, aligns with the humanitarian program led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity. This program aims to support those in greatest need while promoting a culture of solidarity.
To ensure the smooth running of this operation, thousands of individuals have been mobilized, supported by social workers and volunteers, across distribution points set up throughout the country.
The implementation of this initiative is also subject to strict oversight through two committees, one local and one provincial, which monitor the supply of distribution centers and the distribution of food supplies on the ground.
Several institutions are supporting the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity to ensure the success of this solidarity operation, including the social services of the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fishing, Rural Development, Water and Forests, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, the National Mutual Aid, the National Promotion, the National Office of Railways, the National Company for Transport and Logistics, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, as well as local authorities.
For their part, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) oversee the quality control of the distributed food products.
On this occasion, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Khadija symbolically handed out food baskets to 20 heads or representatives of families benefiting from the “Ramadan 1446” operation, before taking a commemorative photo with the volunteers participating in this solidarity initiative.
