Massive Project to Strengthen Drinking Water Supply in Makanassa and Surrounding Areas in Taounate – Multi-Million Investment for Residents

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has launched the first phase of a strategic project aimed at reinforcing the drinking water supply for the Makanassa municipality and its neighboring areas. The project, which sources water from production facilities at Al Wahda Dam, involves a total investment of 41 million dirhams.

According to an official statement from ONEE, this initiative is part of the 2020-2027 National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program, an agreement signed before King Mohammed VI on January 13, 2020. The project is financed by ONEE through a loan from the German Development Bank (KfW).

The first phase, costing 24 million dirhams, includes the installation of 28.5 kilometers of pipelines with diameters ranging between 300 and 400 mm. This phase will ensure continuous access to drinking water for more than 72,000 residents across several municipalities, including Makanassa, El Ghouazi, and Beni Snous (Taounate Province), Al Marabih and Salfat (Sidi Kacem Province), and Sebt Al Wadayah (Moulay Yacoub Province).

The second phase, scheduled for completion by December 2025, will involve the construction of a 500-cubic-meter water reservoir and a pumping station with a capacity of 45 liters per second. These additions will significantly enhance the network’s capacity to meet the growing demand and ensure the sustainability of water resources.

This project is expected to improve living conditions for residents and contribute to social and economic development in the region by providing high-quality drinking water in sufficient quantities to meet increasing needs.
