Fes Launches “Affordable Fish” Initiative and Breaks High Fish Prices: Here is the Price List

The city of Fes witnessed today, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the launch of the seventh edition of the “Affordable Fish” initiative, organized by the Secretariat of State in charge of Maritime Fisheries. The initiative aims to enable citizens to purchase fish at reasonable prices and combat the rising costs that burden consumers, especially with the approach of Ramadan.

The initiative was hosted at the Ain Chkef Road management area (Rond-Point L’Amitié), where a wide variety of fish was displayed at prices described as attractive compared to the market. Some of the prices were as follows:

  • Shrimp (Chevrette) at 17 dirhams per kilogram
  • Small Pagot (Pageot P) at 17 dirhams per kilogram
  • Chopa at 17 dirhams per kilogram
  • Ronfleur at 17 dirhams per kilogram
  • Small Sargo (Sargot P) at 25 dirhams per kilogram
  • Large Sargo (Sargot G) at 35 dirhams per kilogram
  • Whiting (Merlan) at 35 dirhams per kilogram
  • Cleaned Skate (Raie Nettoyée) at 40 dirhams per kilogram
  • White Shark and Pagot cuts (Requin darne, Gazon darne) at 60 dirhams per kilogram
  • Sole at 60 dirhams per kilogram
  • Squid (Calamar) at 60 dirhams per kilogram
  • Grey Shrimp (Crevette Grise) at 100 dirhams per kilogram

The initiative saw a significant turnout from the residents of Fes, who considered these prices a real opportunity to benefit from seafood products at competitive prices, especially at a time when markets are experiencing a significant increase in prices.

Citizens called for the continuation and expansion of such initiatives to other neighborhoods of the city, while monitoring fish prices in regular markets to ensure they are not monopolized or unjustifiably raised after the initiative ends.
