Mayor of Fez Reveals “Millions of Centimes” to Support Key Sectors… Urges Claimants to Pursue Legal Action

Following the February 2025 session held yesterday, the Mayor of Fez made significant statements addressing several key issues concerning the city. One of the most notable announcements was the allocation of 30 million MAD to support cultural activities in Fez as part of a partnership agreement with the Regional Directorate of Culture.

The mayor explained that this funding was intended to boost cultural activities in the city, especially considering Fez’s designation as the fourth cultural capital internationally in 2012. However, he noted that this initiative had not materialized due to the failure of the responsible entities to implement the agreement, raising questions about who is accountable for the delay.

In a broader discussion, the mayor emphasized the importance of collaboration between the municipality and government sectors to support Fez’s cultural and artistic scene. He affirmed the city’s commitment to providing suitable venues for artists and creators, highlighting spaces like the “Liberty Complex”, which has been renovated to host cultural events.

Regarding financial support for sports teams, the mayor announced an increase in funding for Maghreb de Fez (MAS) from 50 million MAD to 100 million MAD, in recognition of the club’s large fan base. Additionally, Wifak Fez received a 50% increase in support, while the funding for Wydad Fez (WAF) will be reviewed in the next session. The mayor clarified that WAF’s funding was not included in this session’s agenda because the current contract is still valid, and any decision regarding it must follow legal procedures.

Addressing those making allegations, the mayor stressed that anyone claiming to possess sensitive information or evidence related to specific issues must file an official complaint with the relevant authorities. He warned that making statements within the council without substantial evidence could expose the claimant to legal consequences for false accusations.

In conclusion, he stated:
“We are in a state governed by the rule of law. Anyone with clear information and specific names should present them to the appropriate authorities for investigation. Merely bringing them up in council meetings without filing an official complaint is neither acceptable nor legally effective.”
