Rachida Dati in Saharan “Melhfa” Reaffirms France’s Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over the Sahara from Tarfaya

During an official visit to Morocco, French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, arrived in the southern regions on Monday, where she visited the city of Tarfaya, specifically “Casa del Mar” or “Maison de la Mer,” alongside her Moroccan counterpart, Mehdi Bensaid.

From this location, Dati, dressed in a traditional Saharan “Melhfa,” reaffirmed France’s supportive stance on Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, emphasizing that “the present and future of this region are under Moroccan sovereignty, and this is indisputable” . This visit marks the first of its kind by a high-ranking French official to the southern regions .

Dati’s visit comes in the context of strengthening cultural ties between the two countries . The visit also includes the inauguration of a French cultural center in the city of Laayoune .
