In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the National Trade Union Coordination in the health sector condemned the unilateral approach adopted by the Ministry of Health, expressing concern over the continuation of practices that contradict the principles of dialogue and consensus. The Coordination affirmed its readiness to confront all possibilities if this approach persists.
The statement followed a letter sent to the Minister of Health, in which the Trade Union Coordination called for the adoption of a participatory and consensual approach in dealing with human resources issues and related texts, in line with the July 23, 2024 agreement. However, the Minister did not respond to the letter and continued to make decisions individually, far from the principle of inclusion and consensus.
The statement pointed out that the Minister recently discussed and approved the basic statutes for employees of the health agencies during administrative council meetings, without involving the unions or the concerned workers. Additionally, the appointment of regional representatives and administrative officials began without following the required legal procedures, sparking widespread dissatisfaction among workers and unions.
The Trade Union Coordination strongly condemned the following in its statement:
- The unilateral approach adopted by the Minister of Health, holding him fully responsible for all consequences.
- The failure to present the basic statutes for agency employees for discussion and consensus, and appointments made without following legal procedures.
- The continuation of this unilateral approach in upcoming issues, sounding the alarm and preparing to fight against any recklessness.
The Trade Union Coordination called on the Minister of Health to take full responsibility by swiftly and fully implementing the July 23, 2024 agreement and correcting the approach being followed before it is too late. It also announced its retention of the right to take all necessary militant decisions to ensure workers’ rights and protect their gains.
This statement comes amid rising tensions between the unions and the Ministry of Health, with fears that the unilateral approach could exacerbate crises in the health sector.
