Expanded Measles Vaccination Campaign Targets Schools in Fes-Meknes Region

Amid rising concerns over the spread of measles (Bouhamron) in educational institutions, health and education authorities in the Fes-Meknes region are continuing an extensive catch-up vaccination campaign targeting students across various schools. This initiative follows directives from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to curb the transmission of this contagious disease.

According to exclusive sources from Fes News, the vaccination campaign, launched on Monday, February 3, remains ongoing as part of the implementation of ministerial circular No. 12/25. This follows the detection of multiple measles cases in several schools. Medical teams are working under a strict health protocol to prevent further outbreaks within the educational environment.

The campaign has covered several prominent institutions in Fes, including Mohammed Belarbi Alaoui Middle School, as well as technical schools and preparatory classes, with health teams striving to vaccinate as many students as possible to achieve herd immunity.

In Meknes, regional health authorities, in coordination with the Ministry of Health’s delegation and local officials, are overseeing vaccination and health monitoring within schools. Awareness campaigns continue, particularly at Tariq Ibn Ziyad High School, where students and parents are being informed about the disease’s risks and the importance of vaccination.

Meanwhile, private schools have reinforced preventive measures by requiring students to present health booklets as proof of completed vaccinations before attending classes.

It is worth noting that since October 2024, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has been leading a nationwide measles immunization campaign targeting children under 18 as part of a national strategy to contain the highly contagious viral disease and mitigate its health impact.

The continuation of this catch-up campaign reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen collective immunity and ensure a safe educational environment. Health experts continue to urge families to monitor their children’s health and ensure they receive the necessary preventive doses.
