The regional office of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in Fes issued a statement today, January 8, 2025, addressing the malicious campaigns targeting the party, particularly regarding its role in managing local affairs and the performance of elected councils, including the Municipal Council of Fes, which is part of the same government majority.
The statement highlighted that there have been defamatory campaigns attempting to undermine the party’s efforts to expose the failures of the government and elected councils, particularly in relation to the management of local affairs and ensuring the continuation of public services. The party emphasized that these attempts are malicious and unprofessional, including the spread of falsehoods about the party’s stance on national and historical symbols, such as the political leader and resistance fighter, Mohamed Ben Said Ait Idder.
Upon becoming aware of these false accusations, the regional office of the PJD engaged with the party’s elected representatives in the Agdal district to verify the facts. It was revealed that the issue stemmed from a proposal by the Agdal District Council to name one of the streets after the leader Mohamed Ben Said Ait Idder. This proposal was met with positive responses from the Environment and Urban Planning Committee, where the party’s councilors voted in favor.
However, during the Council’s session on January 7, 2025, a different proposal was made by one of the party’s councilors, who had not participated in the Environment and Urban Planning Committee, to rename other streets after different national figures. This proposal was rejected by the Council, leading to a vote against the initial proposal. The party clarified that this vote was an individual position and did not reflect the views of the entire party team or its official stance.
In conclusion, the regional office reaffirmed the party’s pride in all national symbols, particularly those of resistance and struggle, and condemned the desperate attempts by certain paid media outlets to distort the party’s image with false claims. The party emphasized its commitment to continue playing its role as a constructive opposition, supporting citizens’ issues, exposing corruption, and holding the public administration accountable.
The statement concluded by assuring that the party remains unaffected by such smear attempts and will continue to work from its constitutional position to defend the interests of citizens and fight against corruption and mismanagement.
