The Fez-Meknes region is witnessing unprecedented activity in preparation for a tourist season expected to be the strongest since the COVID-19 pandemic. All indicators point towards a noticeable recovery in the tourism sector across all prefectures and provinces of the region, driven by increased demand for domestic destinations and enhanced tourism promotion both nationally and internationally.
This recovery is not limited to the city of Fez alone but includes all prefectures and provinces of the region: Fez Prefecture, Meknes Prefecture, Moulay Yacoub Province, Sefrou Province, El Hajeb Province, Ifrane Province, Boulmane Province, Taounate Province, and Taza Province. All these areas are preparing to welcome waves of visitors and tourists from within and outside the country.
The city of Fez, as a cultural and spiritual hub, is recording the highest booking rates in guesthouses and hotel establishments, especially in the ancient medina, which is experiencing a distinguished tourism dynamic. The city of Meknes is also experiencing significant activity, particularly in historical tourism and classified monuments. In Ifrane, mountain and eco-tourism are witnessing increasing demand, while Taza and Taounate are focusing on promoting their natural sites and unique caves.
Regional and local officials are working to provide suitable conditions for welcoming tourists by improving the quality of services, enhancing infrastructure, and preparing landmarks and tourist sites. They are also strengthening security and cleanliness and organizing awareness and training campaigns for professionals in the sector.
Many observers believe that this tourist season could be a pivotal moment for the Fez-Meknes region to regain its national and international tourism standing, especially in light of Morocco’s major preparations to host international sports and cultural events in the lead-up to 2030.
