The Regional Office of the National Health Union affiliated with the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) in Taounate has issued a statement calling on the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and its regional directorate in Fez-Meknes to focus their attention on the health sector in the region.
The statement highlighted that the health sector in Taounate is facing difficult conditions at all levels, including a severe shortage of human resources, especially in rural health centers, where some centers are operated by only one nurse and without a doctor. It also emphasized the lack of equipment, work tools, medicines, medical supplies, and transportation means.
The Regional Office demanded several measures to improve the situation, including:
- Appointing a permanent director for the Regional Hospital Center in Taounate and equipping it with necessary resources and equipment.
- Assigning doctors and nurses to rural health centers to address the acute shortage of medical staff.
- Rebuilding and renovating functional housing for health sector workers near rural health centers.
- Providing necessary transportation means to implement health programs, campaigns, and medical caravans.
- Stopping local transfers characterized by bias and discrimination, and opening applications for positions based on merit and equal opportunities.
- Building an addiction treatment center to provide medical and social care for vulnerable groups, especially youth.
The statement also called on the Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to apply the law regarding functional housing, form a regional committee for temporary transfers, improve human resources management, and impose a training system at the Regional Hospital Center in accordance with the internal law of hospitals.
In conclusion, the Regional Office affirmed its commitment to its legitimate demands and its militant approach in defending the public interest and the rights of health sector workers in the region.
