The Ministry of Equipment and Water in the Kingdom of Morocco has issued a news bulletin warning of a severe heat wave that will hit the country starting Friday, August 9, 2024. According to bulletin number 2024/72, many regions will experience a significant rise in temperatures, with forecasts reaching record levels between 42 and 47 degrees Celsius.
The ministry has set the vigilance level to orange, indicating the seriousness of the situation and the need to take necessary precautions. Large areas of the kingdom will be affected by this heat wave, including Ouazzane, Moulay Yacoub, Fez, Taza, Sefrou, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Khenifra, Ifrane, Khouribga, and Al Haouz, where temperatures will range between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius.
The most affected areas, which will experience temperatures up to 47 degrees Celsius, include Fkih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Settat, Marrakech, Kelaat Sraghna, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Taourirt, Tata, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, and Oued Ed-Dahab.
This heat wave will continue from Saturday, August 10, until Sunday, August 11, 2024, in most areas, while it will extend until Monday, August 12, in the regions of Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab, with high temperatures expected to persist at 43-47 degrees Celsius.
Authorities are urging citizens to exercise extreme caution and follow preventive guidelines during this period, emphasizing the importance of staying in shaded areas and drinking adequate amounts of water, especially for those most vulnerable such as children and the elderly.
