Sierra Leone Supports Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative for Western Sahara

Sierra Leone Stands with Morocco

The Republic of Sierra Leone has expressed its full support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. They see Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

Joint Statement

This position was made clear in a joint statement following discussions between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Sierra Leonean Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba.

Strong Support

In the joint statement, the Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s firm support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. This support was demonstrated by the opening of a Consulate General of Sierra Leone in Dakhla in August 2021 and their participation in the Ministerial Conference in support of the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty on January 15, 2021, at the invitation of Morocco and the United States of America.

UN-Led Process

Sierra Leone also expressed full support for the United Nations-led process to find a realistic, practical, and lasting solution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
