Sefrou – Des associations professionnelles représentant les commerçants de la ville de Sefrou ont exprimé leur opposition à la décision d’organiser un salon commercial en parallèle des activités du Festival des Cerises, estimant que cette initiative pourrait affecter l’activité commerciale locale ainsi que le caractère particulier de cet événement culturel, inscrit depuis 2012 sur la liste représentative du patrimoine culturel immatériel de l’humanité de l’UNESCO.
Cette position fait suite à une réunion tenue par les représentants des commerçants le lundi 8 juin 2026, au cours de laquelle ils ont exprimé leurs réserves concernant l’organisation de ce salon pendant la période du festival, appelant à la révision de la décision et à l’adoption d’une approche participative prenant en compte les avis des acteurs économiques locaux.
Selon un communiqué des associations professionnelles, les commerçants craignent des répercussions négatives du salon sur la dynamique commerciale de la ville, tandis que des observateurs locaux estiment que ce débat reflète des divergences de points de vue sur la manière de concilier la dynamisation de l’économie locale et la préservation du caractère culturel et patrimonial du Festival des Cerises.

Sefrou – Professional associations representing traders in the city of Sefrou have expressed their rejection of the decision to organize a commercial fair parallel to the activities of the Cherry Festival, considering that this move could negatively affect local commercial activity as well as the unique character of this cultural event, which has been inscribed since 2012 on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This stance follows a meeting held by traders’ representatives on Monday, June 8, 2026, during which they voiced reservations about organizing the fair during the festival period, calling for the decision to be reconsidered and for a participatory approach that takes into account the views of local economic stakeholders.
According to a statement from the professional associations, traders fear negative repercussions from the fair on the city’s commercial activity, while local observers believe the debate reflects differing perspectives on how to balance boosting the local economy with preserving the cultural and heritage identity of the Cherry Festival.
In the same context, the associations announced a protest sit-in at 11 January Square on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 10 a.m., calling on various professional and civil associations to take part.
