Riyad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, announced on Monday during a parliamentary session that 1,839 industrial projects have been selected out of 1,914 submitted, as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen national industrial sovereignty.
In a statement read by Omar Hijra, State Secretary in charge of Foreign Trade, Mezzour emphasized that these projects aim to bolster local production and reduce reliance on imports by focusing on goods that can be manufactured domestically.
The total investment for the approved projects has reached 124.9 billion Moroccan dirhams, with an expected impact of creating nearly 179,825 new jobs across the country.
Minister Mezzour highlighted that under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco’s industrial sector has significantly gained in value. This growth is attributed to two decades of strategic industrial policies, which have been further reinforced post-COVID-19 by a national push toward:
- Eco-friendly, carbon-free manufacturing
- Industrial self-reliance
- Enhanced competitiveness
- A reduction in trade deficits
This major industrial push reflects Morocco’s ambition to position itself as a key player in sustainable and resilient industrial development both regionally and globally.
