Mohamed Khiye Reveals a Series of Scandals: Mayor of Fes Accused of Neglect and Nepotism in Local Governance (Videos)

Mohamed Khiye, the head of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) group in Fes, has raised a series of strong statements accusing the city’s mayor and local authorities of negligence in several areas, ranging from urban development projects to the management of public resources and privileges.

Initially, Khiye criticized the ongoing urban development projects in Fes, emphasizing that “these projects have nothing to do with the municipality or the mayor.” He explained that “the funds used for these projects came from other sources, not from the municipality’s budget,” noting that these works were part of the city’s preparations for hosting the 2026 World Cup events.

Khiye also stated that the mayor of Fes is accused of distributing tickets for the agricultural exhibition in Meknes at a café to close associates from his party, saying, “The mayor of Fes was seen in a café distributing tickets for the exhibition to party members, in violation of the principles of transparency and integrity.”

Regarding cleanliness, Khiye pointed out that “the authorities in some districts are handling cleanliness tasks, while the municipality’s monitoring committees are absent.” He considered this a lack of coordination and a sign of indifference in following up on the responsibilities assigned to local officials.

In his remarks about the city’s deteriorating environmental conditions, Khiye condemned the mayor’s negligence in maintaining green spaces, stating, “The mayor of Fes allowed the green spaces to burn without undertaking any maintenance deals over the past four years,” reflecting continued neglect by the responsible authorities in the city.

Khiye also criticized the way party members exploited citizens’ identification cards, asserting that “some citizens in Fes handed over their national IDs to members of the liberal party, only to later discover that they were automatically enrolled in the party without their knowledge.” He called this a form of “political fraud.”

On another note, Khiye discussed public funds, stating that “the mayor of Fes allocated 5 million dirhams to the Wydad Sportive Fassi team simply because the team’s president belongs to the liberal party.” He described this as a “suspicious funding practice that promotes nepotism and isolates the city’s interests.”

Regarding employment within the municipality, Khiye criticized the recruitment of “an occasional worker with a criminal record” who was later accused of stealing from one of the municipal employees, highlighting “the mismanagement of human resources” within the municipality.

In the same context, Khiye revealed that the mayor of Fes distributed 500 tickets for spiritual music concerts to members of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), raising questions about the misuse of public resources for party purposes.

Khiye concluded his statements by discussing street lighting, asserting that “the new streetlights being installed in Fes have nothing to do with the Fes municipality; they are part of World Cup projects.” He considered these initiatives not the result of the municipality’s efforts but rather interventions from other external entities.

The local municipality continues to face criticism from various political figures in the city, with calls for greater oversight and accountability across different sectors to ensure proper management of local affairs and serve the interests of citizens.
