Small Taxi Drivers Union Condemns Abuses by Private Security at Al-Ghassani Hospital in Fes

In a more assertive move to improve working conditions and ensure safe and adequate transportation services for citizens, the Popular Union of Small Taxi Drivers in Fes and the Moroccan Road Transport Professionals Association have submitted an official complaint to the Regional Health Director for the Fes-Meknes region.

The complaint, which was received by Fes News, was prompted by abuses allegedly carried out by some private security guards at Al-Ghassani Hospital in Fes, which notably impacted the operations of the emergency department.

The complaint refers to illegal practices by some of the security guards at the hospital, with taxi drivers reporting that they were forced to pay fees in order to access the emergency department.

This behavior is a clear violation of the applicable regulatory laws in the sector.

Additionally, the complaint mentions a suspicious collusion between some security guards and certain taxi drivers, where some drivers are allowed entry without legal justification while others are arbitrarily denied.

This situation raises significant concerns regarding the existence of unprofessional relationships that are being exploited for the benefit of certain parties, negatively affecting the quality of service provided.

Furthermore, these practices have led to an increased distance of approximately 1000 meters between the emergency department and the nearest taxi station, resulting in greater hardship for patients and their families, who are forced to find transportation further away.

This delay in reaching medical help directly impacts response times and deprives patients of fair and timely access to transport services.

In the complaint, the union and association have urged the Regional Health Director to launch a thorough investigation into these violations and take the necessary steps to halt these practices and ensure the enforcement of the relevant laws.

They also emphasized the need for the establishment of a temporary taxi station in front of the emergency department during nighttime hours (from 8 PM to 6 AM), with clear signage to facilitate the movement of taxis and ease the patients’ struggles.

Additionally, the union called for enhanced administrative oversight of the private security guards at the hospital to ensure compliance with professional standards and respect for the rights of both patients and drivers.

They stressed the importance of maintaining the dignity of all parties involved and fostering a fair and safe working environment.

This complaint is part of the ongoing efforts by the union and association to improve the quality of both health and transportation services in the city, ultimately benefiting the public interest and enhancing the services provided to citizens.
