Preparations for Ramadan: Fes Takes Proactive Measures to Regulate Prices and Ensure Product Quality

The Fes-Meknes Region announced that food products in local markets will be abundant and reasonably priced during the upcoming Ramadan month, with strict measures in place to ensure supply stability and price monitoring.

This announcement was made following a joint ministerial committee meeting on market monitoring and price tracking, held on Tuesday at the Ministry of the Interior in Rabat, attended by Fes-Meknes region governor, Moahad Al-Jamahi, along with relevant sector officials via video conference.

According to the Economic Affairs and Coordination Department at the Fes prefecture, the markets will maintain price stability for consumer goods throughout Ramadan, with a sufficient stock to meet citizens’ needs. Additionally, quality control operations will be intensified to prevent price manipulation.

In this context, joint inspection committees in Fes carried out seven field campaigns between January 20 and 31, covering 136 visits to points of sale, production units, and storage facilities. These inspections led to the identification of 27 violations, including 15 consumer protection violations, and the seizure and destruction of more than 400 kg of unfit food products.

To ensure market stability throughout Ramadan, the authorities launched a special monitoring program in November, focused on supply tracking, enhancing regulatory measures, and coordinating meetings with involved parties. The program also targets the reduction of monopolistic practices and strengthening distribution chains to ensure easy access to essential goods for consumers.

The Fes region further confirmed that monitoring operations will continue during Ramadan, with strict measures in place to ensure traders comply with price laws, competition regulations, and consumer protection. Additionally, the authorities will enforce a ban on illegal plastic bags.

These efforts align with Royal directives aimed at ensuring market stability during Ramadan, protecting consumers’ purchasing power, and preventing price manipulation to safeguard public well-being.
