The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in 2024 to August.
Originally set to occur from February 1 to 28, 2024, the tournament will now be held in August. In a statement released on Tuesday, January 14, CAF explained that although “notable progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in the construction and modernization of stadiums and other infrastructures,” experts from the continental body have determined that “more time is needed to ensure that the facilities meet the necessary standards for successfully hosting the competition.”
CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed his admiration for the ongoing construction and renovation work on football infrastructure in the three host countries. He stated his confidence that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other facilities will meet CAF’s required standards for a successful CHAN in August 2025.
As a reminder, the draw for CHAN 2024 will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, January 15, in Nairobi, Kenya, starting at 6 PM Moroccan time. The exact date for the start of the continental competition in August will be announced by CAF “in due course,” concluded the statement.
