Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Highlights Export Challenges and Opportunities in Fes-Meknes

On November 28, 2024, during a meeting held at the Grand Hall of the Wilaya of Fes-Meknes, the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade addressed the challenges and opportunities facing the export sector in the region. He emphasized the growing importance of exports from Fes-Meknes, which currently amount to approximately 10.6 billion dirhams annually. The region ranks fifth nationally in industrial exports, a testament to its industrial sector’s potential.

During the gathering of key stakeholders in the export sector, the Secretary of State stated that the purpose of the meeting was to improve these figures and enhance the competitiveness of local products in global markets. He remarked, “We are here to engage with all parties involved in the export and foreign trade sectors, aiming to improve these numbers and create a better environment for those working in this field.”

He highlighted the region’s notable products, such as leather, textiles, handicrafts, and food industries, which play a significant role in the local economy. He added, “Our goal is to improve these products and boost exports, particularly those that have long been iconic to the region, to achieve higher numbers and greater success both locally and internationally.”

The meeting also addressed various challenges facing export stakeholders, with the Secretary of State assuring that practical solutions are being developed to improve the situation. He mentioned that the action plan includes tours across the other 12 Moroccan regions to meet with professionals and gather their ideas and suggestions for enhancing the export environment.

These discussions will culminate in 12 key recommendations forming a roadmap for implementing the action plan, which is set to launch in 2025. The recommendations will focus on actionable points designed to deliver tangible results within two years, by mid-2026.

In closing, the Secretary of State emphasized the importance of listening to feedback from industry professionals and committing to implementing the recommendations derived from these consultations. He assured that all initiatives aim to improve trade conditions and expand the international reach of Moroccan products.
