Las Palmas, Canary Islands – In a joint operation with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, the Spanish Civil Guard was able to intercept two inflatable boats heading towards the coasts of the Canary Islands, carrying 4,723 kilograms of hashish.
The Civil Guard command in Las Palmas explained that the information received from the General Directorate of Surveillance indicated the possibility of two boats arriving on the islands’ coasts loaded with large quantities of drugs. Thanks to the “close police cooperation” between the two entities, the Civil Guard forces were able to spot the boats through patrol boats belonging to the Coast Guard units.
The source added that the forces intercepted the boats 80 kilometers off the mainland and arrested their four-member crews. It was found that the boats were carrying 131 bales of hashish, with a total weight of 4,723 kilograms.
The Spanish Civil Guard stated that the four suspects were handed over to the court in charge of the case, which ordered their detention. This operation is considered another success in the ongoing cooperation between the Spanish security forces and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance in the fight against drug trafficking.
