Moroccan Government Reviews International Agreements on Aviation Security and Extradition

In its meeting on Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Moroccan Government Council discussed a set of international agreements and related draft laws presented by Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

The discussed items included a Protocol amending the Convention on Offenses and Certain Other Acts Committed on Board Aircraft, adopted in Montreal on April 4, 2024.

Accompanied by Draft Law No. 49.23 for its ratification, the protocol aims to enhance measures for the safety of passengers and the security of aircraft, addressing actions that threaten order on board.

The council also reviewed a draft extradition agreement between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, signed in Rabat in December 2013, along with Draft Law No. 19.24, intended to ratify the agreement.

This agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and the Netherlands in tackling transnational crime by facilitating the extradition of criminals and ensuring effective justice between the two countries.

These projects reflect Morocco’s commitment to strengthening its international partnerships in the fields of security and justice.

They form part of the Kingdom’s broader strategy to enhance national and regional security, improve tools for combating violent and transnational crimes, and align with its international obligations to protect citizens both domestically and abroad.
