The city of Fez witnessed an important event in the field of inclusive education with the signing of a regional protocol supplementing the partnership agreement between the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports and the Alaouite Organization for the Care of the Blind in Morocco. This signing came as part of implementing the strategic objectives of the 2022/2026 roadmap and enhancing regional programs in the Fez-Meknes region.

The signing ceremony was presided over by the Director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training, in the presence of several local and educational officials, including the Pasha and Caid of the Sais area, the President of the Fez branch of the Alaouite Organization for the Care of the Blind, the Regional Director in charge of the Fez directorate, as well as representatives from the Academy and the Federation of Parents’ Associations.

The protocol aims to develop joint programs and projects to support education directed at the blind and visually impaired. The signing event coincided with the regional open house program organized by the Fez branch of the Alaouite Organization for the Care of the Blind in cooperation with the Academy.

During the event, data and statistics were presented on the schooling of blind and visually impaired children, along with the educational and administrative structure of the Mohammed V Institution for Saving the Blind. The Regional Director and his accompanying delegation also inaugurated a new boarding wing created with support from the National Initiative for Human Development.

The visit included a tour of the inclusive classrooms at the institution, where attendees observed the pedagogical practices used in teaching blind and visually impaired students using Braille. The tour also encompassed workshops for adapted school life activities, including arts and crafts, music, and reading, as well as adapted physical education and sports sessions.

This protocol marks an important step towards enhancing inclusive education in the region and improving educational opportunities for students with visual disabilities, reflecting the commitment of concerned parties to developing a more comprehensive and effective educational system.
