Morocco and the UN Office on Counter-Terrorism Hold First High-Level Strategic Dialogue

On Thursday, September 26, in New York, Morocco and the United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) held their first session of high-level strategic dialogue, coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly.

This initiative is part of Morocco’s efforts to strengthen its partnership with the UN in counter-terrorism, following the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The partnership focuses on enhancing cooperation with the UN, particularly in Africa, where Morocco seeks to bolster its role as a key regional force in peace and security.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov.

This meeting is seen as a crucial step in supporting joint efforts to combat terrorism in the African continent.

During the session, Bourita emphasized the continuous efforts of the UNOCT in assisting African nations in addressing security challenges.

He also reiterated Morocco’s commitment to strengthening strategic and multilateral cooperation in line with UN principles, noting that this dialogue marks a new phase in reinforcing the partnership to bolster Africa’s capacity to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
