On September 9, 2024, Hassan El Tazi Shallal, President of the Fès Prefectural Council, reviewed the significant outcomes achieved during the council’s session. The meeting marked a vital step towards enhancing the city’s social, cultural, and sports sectors, with the approval of several partnership agreements aimed at advancing crucial areas.
Strengthening Social Support for Vulnerable Groups
A notable partnership agreement was signed between the Fès Prefectural Council, the Regional Coordination of National Cooperation in Fès-Meknes, and the Al-Noor Association for Autistic Children. Under this agreement, an annual financial support of 200,000 dirhams will be provided over three years to improve services for children with autism. This initiative reflects the council’s commitment to supporting the city’s most vulnerable populations by expanding the reach of services and ensuring these children receive essential care.
Cultural Promotion Through the Fès Festival of Sufi Culture
In the cultural sphere, the council approved funding for the Fès Festival of Sufi Culture, a yearly event celebrating the city’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage. An annual allocation of 200,000 dirhams for three years will be granted in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Youth, Culture, and Communication – Culture Sector, and the Fès Festival of Sufi Culture Association. This financial backing aims to solidify Fès’s position as a global cultural hub, fostering its influence both nationally and internationally.
Boosting Fès as a Sports Destination
On the sporting front, the council endorsed the Fès International Marathon, committing an annual contribution of 50,000 dirhams for three years. This partnership, developed in coordination with the Regional Directorate of National Education, Early Childhood, and Sports, and the Fassi Sports Association of Delai, aspires to position Fès as a top destination for marathon enthusiasts. The event also aims to showcase the city’s unique cultural and architectural heritage to a global audience.
Infrastructure and Education Advancements
Other significant projects included the approval of an infrastructure initiative to complete the traditional tannery at Ain Nokbi, requiring an investment of 3.5 million dirhams. This project will preserve traditional craftsmanship and boost the local economy. Additionally, a detailed presentation was delivered by the Regional Directorate of National Education on preparations for the 2024-2025 academic year, highlighting efforts to ensure a smooth start to the school year and enhance education quality.
In a statement to the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP), Hassan El Tazi Shallal emphasized that these agreements and initiatives will significantly bolster the cultural and sports sectors in Fès while expanding the reach of social services, positioning Fès as a model for sustainable and integrated development.
