As part of national efforts to enhance the reintegration and rehabilitation of prisoners, Ras El Ma Local Prison in Fez hosted a preparatory meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2024, to roll out the “Prisons Without Recidivism” program, which aims to reduce repeat offenses among young inmates.
Initially launched in July 2023 at Tamesna Local Prison by the General Delegate for Prison Administration and Reintegration, this program focuses on developing life and professional skills for young inmates who face challenges reintegrating into society after their release.
The initiative seeks to provide comprehensive rehabilitation opportunities, including social and vocational training, empowering participants to return to society in a productive and constructive manner.
The preparatory meeting, chaired by the prison’s director, Mr. Azeddine Chafiq, gathered key stakeholders such as judicial and local authorities, representatives of the Scientific Council, and the Regional Human Rights Commission.
During the meeting, participants discussed the initial frameworks of the program and explored practical ways to tailor it to the specific needs of the young inmates at Ras El Ma.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Morocco’s prison administration aimed at comprehensive reform of the prison system, enhancing reintegration opportunities for inmates, and reducing recidivism rates.
