In an interview with Xinhua News Agency during the China-Africa Cooperation Forum Summit, Moroccan Ambassador to China, Abdelkader Ennassiri, emphasized that the electric vehicle sector presents a significant opportunity for strengthening collaboration between Morocco and China.
Ennassiri revealed that Morocco is keen to develop this vital sector in partnership with leading Chinese companies.
Ennassiri pointed out that Morocco possesses both the natural resources and human skills necessary to attract foreign investment in this field.
He noted recent agreements between Moroccan and Chinese companies to manufacture electric batteries, a crucial component of the electric vehicle industry.
The ambassador also highlighted Morocco’s readiness to offer an attractive investment environment, supported by its advanced infrastructure and favorable tax and customs incentives.
The relations between Morocco and China have seen substantial growth across various domains, particularly in economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
Ennassiri referred to the strategic partnership signed between the two countries in 2016, aimed at achieving comprehensive development that benefits both parties.
Regarding the Belt and Road Initiative, Ennassiri mentioned that Morocco was among the first countries to sign a memorandum of understanding on the initiative.
He expressed Morocco’s ambition to undertake several projects under this framework, especially in the fields of industry and agriculture.
The Moroccan ambassador also underscored Morocco’s goal to transition to renewable energy, aiming to generate 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
He stressed the importance of joint projects with China, such as the Noor Solar Power Plant, in achieving this target.
Additionally, Ennassiri mentioned Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, expressing the country’s eagerness to benefit from Chinese expertise in infrastructure, transportation, and energy projects.
In closing, the ambassador emphasized the importance of enhancing cultural exchange between the two nations, noting that Morocco and China have a historical relationship spanning centuries.
He highlighted the increasing number of Chinese tourists visiting Morocco and the growing interest among Moroccan youth in studying Chinese, which contributes to strengthening future bilateral cooperation.
