The Criminal Chamber of the Fez Court of Appeal, which specializes in financial crimes, upheld the preliminary ruling issued by the Criminal Chamber of First Instance in the case of the tampering with the equipment of the Ibn Baja Regional Hospital in Taza, convicting the hospital director and the person in charge of logistical equipment, who were sentenced to four years in prison for the scandal of tampering and brokering in the hospital’s equipment.
In the same case, the same chamber convicted two other employees of the health institution to one and a half years in prison, the same sentence received by a head nurse who worked in the same hospital.
The court also sentenced the hospital’s security officer to eight months’ imprisonment, while the court increased the sentence against three doctors who own private clinics from six months’ imprisonment each to one year.
The 12 defendants were prosecuted by the public prosecution on charges of embezzlement and squandering public funds, abuse of influence, bribery, taking a benefit from an institution he manages, forgery of official documents, participation in the embezzlement and squandering of public funds and hiding something obtained from a felony, in connection with the suspected transfer, under mysterious circumstances, of medical supplies, equipment and medical supplies belonging to the Ben Baja Regional Hospital to two private clinics in Taza.
