The Argentine Football Federation has filed an official complaint with FIFA following a turbulent start to the soccer matches at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The complaint relates to the events that took place during the match between Argentina and Morocco in Saint-Etienne, where chaos erupted after some fans stormed the field in the substitute time, leading to a long suspension and postponement of the match.
The referee eventually used video technology to review the controversial goal, after which he adjusted the score and resumed the match, which angered the Argentine coaching staff and players, coach Javier Mascherano signed off on calling the events a “scandal,” while team star Lionel Messi expressed his displeasure via Instagram’s “My Story” feature.
The complaint highlighted the need for FIFA to intervene and take strict measures to avoid the recurrence of such incidents at future major sporting events.
