Pottery and glaze makers at the Benglig project in Fez have been suffering from daily water cuts for two consecutive weeks, threatening to disrupt the production chain and delay the fulfillment of orders from inside and outside Morocco, according to a local source.
According to the source, the water cuts start from 9 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m., which hinders the process of dissolving the clay and hinders the continuation of production, especially as the peak summer season is approaching.
The source added that these frequent interruptions are upsetting the artisans, who have appealed to the head of the Chamber of Traditional Industry to intervene and solve the issue, but “to no avail so far.”
Traditional potters are appealing to the governor of the region to intervene urgently to solve this crisis, which threatens an important export sector in Morocco.
It is noteworthy that the pottery and zellige sector in Fez enjoys a wide international reputation and contributes significantly to the national economy through its exports to various parts of the world.
