Rabat – Le soutien international à la souveraineté du Maroc sur son Sahara continue de se renforcer, après que le Ghana et la République du Bénin ont réaffirmé, à deux jours d’intervalle, leur appui explicite à l’Initiative marocaine d’autonomie, la qualifiant de cadre le plus réaliste et crédible pour parvenir à une solution politique durable et mutuellement acceptable au différend régional.

À Accra, un communiqué conjoint publié à l’issue des entretiens entre le ministre marocain des Affaires étrangères, de la Coopération africaine et des Marocains résidant à l’étranger, Nasser Bourita, et son homologue ghanéen Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, souligne que le Ghana considère l’Initiative marocaine d’autonomie comme « la seule base réaliste et durable » permettant d’aboutir à une solution consensuelle à la question du Sahara marocain.

Cette position a été exprimée à l’occasion de la visite de travail de M. Bourita au Ghana, où les deux ministres ont coprésidé la deuxième session de la Commission mixte de coopération maroco-ghanéenne, consacrée au renforcement du partenariat bilatéral dans plusieurs domaines.

Le Ghana a également salué la Résolution 2797 du Conseil de sécurité des Nations Unies, qui renouvelle son soutien aux efforts du Secrétaire général de l’ONU et de son Envoyé personnel pour poursuivre le processus politique sur la base de l’Initiative marocaine d’autonomie, en vue d’une solution politique juste, durable et mutuellement acceptable.

Dans le même élan, la République du Bénin a réitéré son soutien constant à l’intégrité territoriale du Royaume et à sa souveraineté sur l’ensemble de son territoire, y compris ses provinces du Sud, lors de la septième session de la Commission mixte maroco-béninoise tenue à Cotonou.

Le communiqué conjoint signé à l’issue de cette réunion, coprésidée par Nasser Bourita et la ministre béninoise des Affaires étrangères chargée de l’intégration africaine, Korin Amory Broni, affirme que le Bénin considère également l’Initiative d’autonomie comme la seule solution crédible et réaliste au différend régional.

La ministre béninoise a également salué la Résolution 2797 du Conseil de sécurité, estimant qu’elle consacre l’Initiative d’autonomie sous souveraineté marocaine comme fondement d’un règlement politique juste, durable et accepté par toutes les parties.

Dans une démarche diplomatique significative, la responsable béninoise a annoncé qu’elle défendrait, dans le cadre de la révision de la carte diplomatique et consulaire de son pays, l’ouverture d’une représentation consulaire à Laâyoune. Elle a également fait part de son intention de se rendre prochainement à Dakhla afin de constater le développement économique et social des provinces du Sud et d’explorer de nouvelles perspectives de coopération.

Au cours de sa visite à Cotonou, M. Bourita a été reçu par le président béninois Romuald Wadagni, qui a chargé le ministre marocain de transmettre au Roi Mohammed VI ses salutations fraternelles et sa volonté de renforcer davantage les relations bilatérales entre les deux pays.

Ces prises de position successives s’inscrivent dans la dynamique diplomatique conduite par le Maroc pour consolider le soutien international à son Initiative d’autonomie, désormais soutenue par un nombre croissant d’États comme solution sérieuse, crédible et réaliste, conformément aux résolutions pertinentes du Conseil de sécurité des Nations Unies.

King Mohammed VI Strengthens International Momentum on the Moroccan Sahara as Ghana and Benin Reaffirm Support for the Autonomy Initiative

Rabat – International support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Southern Provinces continues to grow after Ghana and the Republic of Benin reaffirmed, on consecutive days, their explicit backing for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, describing it as the most realistic and credible basis for achieving a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution to the regional dispute.

In Accra, a joint statement issued following talks between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that Ghana considers Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative to be “the only realistic and sustainable basis” for reaching a consensual solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.

The announcement came during Mr. Bourita’s working visit to Ghana, where both ministers co-chaired the second session of the Moroccan-Ghanaian Joint Cooperation Commission, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Ghana also welcomed United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which reiterates support for the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in pursuing the political process based on Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative to achieve a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution.

Similarly, the Republic of Benin reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including its Southern Provinces, during the seventh session of the Moroccan-Beninese Joint Commission held in Cotonou.

The joint communiqué issued after the meeting, co-chaired by Nasser Bourita and Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for African Integration, Korin Amory Broni, stated that Benin also regards the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the only credible and realistic solution to the regional dispute.

The Beninese minister further welcomed UN Security Council Resolution 2797, noting that it recognizes the Autonomy Initiative under Moroccan sovereignty as the foundation for a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable political settlement.

In a move carrying additional diplomatic significance, the Beninese official announced that she would advocate, as part of her country’s diplomatic and consular restructuring, for the opening of a consular representation in Laayoune. She also revealed plans to visit Dakhla in the near future to observe the economic and social development taking place in Morocco’s Southern Provinces and explore new opportunities for cooperation and partnership.

During his visit to Cotonou, Mr. Bourita was received by Beninese President Romuald Wadagni, who asked him to convey his fraternal greetings to King Mohammed VI and expressed his determination to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

These successive diplomatic positions form part of Morocco’s broader strategy to consolidate international support for its Autonomy Initiative, which is increasingly endorsed by a growing number of countries as the most serious, credible, and realistic framework for resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue, in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
