La région du golfe d’Oman, près du détroit d’Ormuz, a connu un nouvel épisode de tension, après l’annonce par les autorités indiennes de la disparition de trois marins indiens à la suite de l’attaque d’un pétrolier par l’armée américaine, selon les confirmations de Washington.
Le Commandement central américain (CENTCOM) a précisé qu’un de ses avions de combat avait frappé la salle des machines du pétrolier “Settebello”, battant pavillon de Palau, après que son équipage a refusé de se conformer aux ordres des forces américaines, ajoutant que le navire tentait de transporter une cargaison de pétrole iranien en violation du blocus imposé par les États-Unis sur les ports iraniens.
Selon le ministère indien des Affaires étrangères, 24 marins indiens se trouvaient à bord du navire ; 21 d’entre eux ont été secourus, tandis que trois restent portés disparus.
L’incident a provoqué une réaction diplomatique de New Delhi, qui a convoqué le chargé d’affaires américain et exprimé son protestation officielle, selon des sources gouvernementales indiennes.
Par ailleurs, la société britannique de sécurité maritime Vanguard a indiqué que le pétrolier avait lancé un appel de détresse après que la salle des machines a été directement touchée et qu’un incendie s’est déclaré à bord, au large de la ville de Sohar en Oman. L’UKMTO (Opérations de commerce maritime britannique) a confirmé que l’incident s’était produit à environ 20 milles nautiques au nord-est de Sohar.
Ce développement survient alors que le détroit d’Ormuz et ses environs connaissent une montée des tensions liée au conflit existant entre les États-Unis et l’Iran, dans une zone par laquelle transite environ 20 % des approvisionnements mondiaux en pétrole et en gaz, rendant tout nouvel incident particulièrement suivi au niveau international.

The Gulf of Oman, near the Strait of Hormuz, witnessed a new escalation after Indian authorities reported the disappearance of three Indian sailors following the targeting of an oil tanker by the U.S. military, as confirmed by Washington.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that one of its fighter jets struck the engine room of the tanker “Settebello”, flying the flag of Palau, after its crew refused to comply with U.S. military orders. The ship was reportedly attempting to transport Iranian oil in violation of the U.S.-imposed blockade on Iranian ports.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, 24 Indian sailors were on board; 21 were rescued, while three remain missing.
The incident prompted a diplomatic response from New Delhi, which summoned the U.S. chargé d’affaires and lodged an official protest, according to Indian government sources.
British maritime security company Vanguard reported that the tanker issued a distress call after the engine room was directly hit and a fire broke out on board off the coast of Sohar, Oman. The UKMTO (UK Maritime Trade Operations) confirmed the incident occurred approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Sohar.
This development comes amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters due to the ongoing confrontation between the United States and Iran, in an area that handles around 20% of global oil and gas supplies, making any new escalation a matter of significant international attention.
Observers believe that the continuation of military operations in the area increases concerns over maritime security and the stability of global energy markets, particularly given the growing number of incidents targeting commercial vessels in one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors.
