The city of Fes hosted a vibrant ceremony on Saturday to honor former Moroccan international Moulay Driss Khannoussi, an iconic figure of national football, celebrating his remarkable career and lasting contribution to the prestige of Moroccan sports.
Initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Champions, the event took place in the presence of the Wali of the Fes-Meknes region, Khalid Aït Taleb, and the President of the Foundation, Chakib Benmoussa, along with numerous legends of Moroccan football and sports officials.
In his address, Mr. Benmoussa emphasized that this tribute is part of a national effort to recognize exemplary figures who have shaped the history of Moroccan sports. He highlighted that celebrating former champions reflects the Nation’s pride in their sacrifices, discipline, and dedication to the national jersey.
Former international Abderrezzak Khairi expressed his honor in participating in this tribute to one of the greats of Fes. He recalled that Khannoussi distinguished himself from a young age with both the national team and his club, Maghreb Association Sportive (MAS).
Born on November 21, 1939, Khannoussi is one of Morocco’s most decorated defenders, with 114 international caps. He represented the Atlas Lions in major competitions, including the 1962 Africa Cup of Nations and the 1971 Mediterranean Games. In club football, he remained a loyal figure of MAS Fes from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.

La ville de Fès a rendu, samedi, un hommage appuyé à l’ancien international marocain Moulay Driss Khannoussi, figure emblématique du football national, saluant un parcours sportif remarquable et une contribution durable au rayonnement du sport marocain.
Initiée par la Fondation Mohammed VI des Anciens Champions Sportifs, cette cérémonie s’est tenue en présence du Wali de la région Fès-Meknès, Khalid Aït Taleb, et du président de la Fondation, Chakib Benmoussa, ainsi que de nombreuses gloires du football national et cadres techniques.
Lors de son intervention, M. Benmoussa a indiqué que cet hommage s’inscrit dans une démarche de reconnaissance des parcours exemplaires ayant marqué l’histoire du sport national, soulignant que cette célébration traduit l’estime de la Nation pour l’engagement et la discipline de ses champions sous le maillot national.
L’ancien international Abderrezzak Khairi s’est dit « honoré » de prendre part à cet hommage rendu à l’un des grands noms du football fassi, rappelant que Khannoussi s’est distingué tant au sein de l’équipe nationale qu’avec le Maghreb Association Sportive de Fès (MAS).
