The Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and the government’s official spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, revealed that the number of widows benefiting from the Direct Social Support Program has reached 390,000 widows nationwide.
This information was shared during a press briefing held after the Government Council meeting on Thursday, January 15, 2026, which was dedicated to presenting updates on government action.
The minister explained that the social support system currently covers a total of 3.9 million households, noting that this expansion forms part of the rollout of the national project to generalize social protection.
Baitas added that the financial envelope allocated to this program amounts to 41.5 billion dirhams for the current year, pointing out that the number of beneficiaries has quadrupled compared to the initial phase of the program’s implementation.
He stressed that this support represents one of the key pillars of the government’s social vision, particularly with regard to assisting vulnerable groups, foremost among them widows and low-income families.
The minister also emphasized that the government continues the on-the-ground implementation of the Direct Social Support program, while remaining open to evaluating and improving the scheme to enhance targeting and address any potential shortcomings.
