In Marrakech… A Social Media Video Documenting a Snatch Theft Puts Police on Alert and Leads to the Arrest of a 23-Year-Old

Police officers from the Marrakech Police Directorate arrested, yesterday Thursday, January 15, a 23-year-old individual on suspicion of involvement in a case of snatch theft using a motorized vehicle.

According to available information, the suspect is alleged to have stolen a mobile phone by snatching it while riding a motorcycle on a public street in the city of Marrakech. The incident was captured in a video widely circulated on social media platforms, which helped accelerate the pace of police investigations.

Security inquiries and investigations enabled officers to identify and arrest the suspect. A search operation resulted in the seizure of three mobile phones suspected to be proceeds of similar thefts, in addition to a sum of money believed to have been obtained from these criminal acts.

The operation also led to the seizure of the clothing worn by the suspect at the time of the alleged offenses, as well as a motorcycle suspected to have been used to facilitate the commission of these thefts.

The suspect was placed in police custody pending a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with the aim of uncovering all circumstances surrounding the case and determining any additional criminal acts that may be attributed to him, in full compliance with the applicable legal procedures.
