The provincial office of taxi drivers in Fes, affiliated with the National Union of Labour in Morocco, has announced the organization of a joint regional coordination meeting bringing together the General Union of Moroccan Workers and the Democratic Confederation of Labour.
The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in the main hall of the Fes Municipal Council.
According to a document issued by the organizing bodies, the meeting comes amid what professional unions describe as an “accumulation of dysfunctions” affecting the taxi sector, resulting from decisions and regulatory measures deemed unilateral and disconnected from the realities of professionals and the daily constraints they face while carrying out their work.
The document points to several issues that unions say directly undermine the sector’s stability, including the growing spread of illegal transport and the resulting organizational disorder, cases of contract termination leading to the displacement of a number of drivers, and the persistence of what is described as an “imbalanced control” exercised by some license holders. It also highlights the accumulation of debts owed by sector professionals to the National Social Security Fund.
The same document further warns of what it characterizes as the marginalization of taxis’ role within the tourism system, stressing that this role requires reassessment and structured integration into local transport and tourism policies.
In this context, the trade union bodies affirmed that the meeting is part of an approach based on “responsible and unified action,” aimed at defending the dignity of professionals and safeguarding their right to work within a fair and equitable legal framework. They also emphasized their rejection of all forms of marginalization or decisions that could undermine the social stability of workers in the sector.
The unions concluded their call by underscoring that the upcoming meeting represents, in their words, “an organizational milestone of a national character,” intended to unify perspectives and strengthen trade union coordination in order to push toward comprehensive reform of the road transport system for taxis, in compliance with existing laws and in service of the public interest.
